Arsenic : Ten percent of stores selling apple and grape juice arsenic. more than 25% arsenic has lead - from the Environmental Protection Agency allows in bottled water, a Consumer Reports study found arsenic levels below the current total is the "level of concern" that the FDA asked for further examination. But consumer advocacy groups say the federal agency should be more worried.
a consumer report and opinion polls show that more than a third of children younger than 5 years of age due to drinking apple juice for more than 6 ounces of juice a day or a box of pediatricians recommend. Children are more sensitive to arsenic poisoning than adults. And many of them drank at least 16 ounces per day, potentially exposing them to high levels of arsenic.
scientific survey commissioned by Consumer Reports - using the CDC survey data - found that people who reported drinking apple juice or grape juice has a level of about 20% higher than the arsenic in urine than those who did not drink juice.
"We are very concerned about the potential risk of exposure to these toxins, particularly for children who are particularly vulnerable because of the small body size and the amount they regularly consume juice," Urvashi Rangan, PhD, director of safety and sustainability for the consumer report, said in news release.
Arsenic has been used as a poison since ancient times. Only postage-stamp size bit of inorganic arsenic is lethal.
But a small amount consumed from time to time can be deadly as well. Arsenic has been linked to bladder, lung, and skin cancer. This increases the risk of heart disease on a person, immune deficiency, and diabetes.
