Barcelona captain, Carles Puyol will miss two to three months after surgery performed on his left knee on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Puyol should recover post-surgery condition.
The 33-year-old defender was forced to miss the friendly match between Spain against the United States and Venezuela this month. Previously, Puyol has lost most of the second half of the season, Barca in La Liga this season because of injury recovery.
"Injuries had been going on for four months and has gone through several stages," said the doctor Ricard Pruna told a news conference as reported by Supersport.
Puyol did not become the starter when Barcelona beat Manchester United in the Champions League final. He got a chance to come up with substitute Daniel Alves in the 88th minute.
"Puyol decided to wait for surgery until the Champions League final, and I think that's the right decision," added the doctor.
Puyol is expected to miss some preseason games in Barcelona. That includes facing Manchester United in the United States tour in Maryland on July 30, 2011.
